Case IH has expanded its product line up with the addition of the brand-new Case IH Titan 4020 floater.
Able to go where modified road trucks can’t, the 305-hp Titan floater is designed to allow farmers to enter even very wet or steep paddocks to spread fertiliser without compacting or roughing up the soil, according to Case IH Product Manager, Ross Johansson.
“The Titan is the ideal vehicle for spreading fertiliser in all weather. With all the rain we’ve had in parts of southern Australia lately, we’ve seen increased demand for a floater designed specifically for agricultural applications,” he says.
“Many broadacre farmers and contractors have been making do by putting wide tyres on road trucks with a fertiliser bin on the back. The Titan is a purpose-built machine with a number of advantages over modified road trucks.
“The gearing and driveline are designed for low speeds and on-farm applications. The wide body is far more stable than a standard truck, giving farmers more confidence to spread fertiliser on slopes and uneven ground safely. The tyres are far wider than you could ever fit onto a road truck, providing maximum floatation.
“Importantly, because the Case IH Titan is an agricultural vehicle, it’s not subject to the same road transport legislation as a truck, giving you more flexibility in the way you use it.”
The Titan is available as a cab chassis in Australia, giving customers a choice of locally-made, customised bins and attachments.
“We’re in discussions with various local manufacturers to ensure that we can offer customers a complete package that suits their individual operation rather than a make-do or one-size-fits-all approach,” Johansson says.
The Titan uses the same cab, bonnet and engine as the popular Case IH Steiger tractors, making them even more attractive to Case IH customers.
“The commonality of parts makes them very cost effective to own and maintain, plus any current Case IH tractor owner will feel right at home in the Titan cab,” Johansson says.
“We’re seeing interest in the Titan from broadacre farmers and contractors as well as dairy farmers looking to spread dry and liquid fertiliser.
“Sugar cane growers in north Queensland will use the Titan as a haul out truck and we’ve also had interest from construction contractors who can see the potential of the Titan as a water truck on site.”
The Titan has a transport speed of 75kph and is AccuGuide ready, giving customers the option of adding autosteer using the Case IH AFS Pro 600 monitor.
Selection of engine speed and gearing is straightforward with a six-speed Allison MD push button automatic transmission and a two-speed final drive.
Adding the optional two-speed auxiliary transmission turns the six-speed transmission into a 12-speed transmission.
In addition, unrestricted visibility and ergonomically-designed controls simplify floater operation and put command in the operator’s hands.
Operators enjoy a panoramic view with a one-piece curved, tinted, thermal windshield.
A-post instrumentation allows the operator to monitor critical functions without taking his eyes off the field, and the right-hand control panel moves with the seat for easy control of all machine functions.
Available now for forward orders, the Titan will be delivered in time for seeding in 2011.
